If you sign up for this service it will scan your PC to check to see if you have the latest version of your software updates and if you don't it will go off and get them and download them to your computer. There is no charge as they make their money from advertising and donations. They also ensure that the download is as fast as possible and prevents all those horrible pop ups on your screen asking you if you want the latest version now or later. So you have a lot less visual noise on your computer as a result.
