Websites reviewed by Maeve Kneafsey on IrelandAM on 3rd September included:
www.searchme.com Searchme is a new search engine that is a little different from the rest. What I like in particular is the way you can visually see what you are searching for. Instead of a list of links, you can see a selection of homepages visually, and secondly when you type your search it immediately shows you categories that relate to your query, just below the search box. This helps you to refine your search before you even click on a link. As time goes by and we all have bigger screens at home and at work and faster access, I think this form of search result will really be an improvement.
www.just-eat.ie This is a new website where you can order food online for home delivery or delivery to your workplace. Just Eat covers mainly Dublin at the moment - but it will expand to cover most large Irish towns. Set up originally in Denmark, the Just-Eat online service is spreading its wings across Europe. Definitely worth trying them out to find all the various takeaway and home deliver options available to you in your local area.
www.buy4now.ie Not an unfamiliar website to many of us, but the range of what they offer has increased so worthgoing back to have a second look. For example, if you are looking for things like swings and climbing frames for the kids or just back to school supplies, from school bags to sports equipment. It is a great place to find a wide variety of choice in one spot. I did a lot of my back to school shopping from the comfort of my lunchtime office chair this year! I really saved on the cost of those school knapsacks that can be really pricey.
www.teleflorist.co.uk/?PURL=irishlinks Nice easy to use online flower delivery services. They are pretty reasonably priced, deliver to Ireland and have some quirky ideas. For example, you can buy flowers based on someones birth sign! What was a little weird, was the selection for my own birth sign, Capricorn, included most of my favourite flowers!
www.yourlocal.ie/index.do A new online guide to businesses in your local area, owned by Independent News and Media. You can log and read other users views or reviews of local businesses and services, which really works to give you good old fashioned word of mouth in your local area. Early days for this website however, so reviews from users of those services is patchy. Good information nonetheless for contacts and finding out what is available around you. You can of course add your own review of a local business for others to learn from your experience.
