ABC of web design

It's not a complete ABC, but here's a few handy hints when designing your website!
  • 3 Clicks Rule – In most cases, it should take a maximum of 3 clicks for a user to find what they want!
  • Colours - Use dark fonts on light background, and don’t overuse colours – 1 or 2 main, with a few highlights
  • Consistent Style – Keep your page layout, images, navigation and content consistent across your entire website
  • Content - Place content prominently, use large enough font sizes for readability, and allow your users to click, not scroll, by having two pages of scrolling content at most
  • Fonts - Use standard and readable fonts
  • Graphics and Images - don’t overuse them, keep them relevant to your user, and optimise them for file size
  • Navigation - Keep it consistent, use standard language (e.g. “Home Page”), label where the user is on the website
  • Speed - Ensure your website works quickly for the user
