Risks on the Internet

The Internet can be a lawless place at times - make sure you're aware of some of our guidelines below. Our guidelines do not count as legal advice. If in doubt, contact a lawyer!
  • Link to other peoples pages, not directly to the images or other media stored on those pages
  • Ensure you put the copyright symbol, the copyright owner and the date on all your content
  • Ensure you have the right permissions for content on your website that other people may have created
  • Think before you publish content on the Internet – do you have good reason to speak out? If in doubt, don’t publish the content
  • Make sure you own the rights to your domain name
  • Make sure you have access to your own hosting solution (usually FTP username and password), and only your developer has this access as well
  • Ensure you have all the relevant disclaimers on your website
  • Ensure you have a privacy policy on your website
  • Choose the right online booking/payments system for your needs, shop around, and make sure it’s secure!
  • Make sure you have an Internet Usage Policy in place for your company, if it’s needed
